چکیده

Aims. We present the first long-term pulse profile study of the X-ray pulsar SAX J2103.5+4545. Our main goal is to study the pulse shape correlation either with luminosity, time or energy. Methods. This Be/X-ray binary system was observed from 1999 to 2004 by RXTE PCA, and by INTEGRAL from 2002 to 2005, during the Performance and Verification (PV) phase and the Galactic Plane Scan survey (GPS). X-ray pulse profiles were obtained in different energy ranges. The long-term spectral variability of this source is studied. The long-term flux, frequency and spin-up rate histories are computed. A new set of orbital parameters are also determined. Results. The pulse shape is complex and highly variable either with time or luminosity. However, an energy dependence pattern was found. Single, double, triple or even quadruple peaks pulse profile structure was obtained. It was confirmed that SAX J2103.5+4545 becomes harder when the flux is higher. The new orbital solution obtained is: Porb= 12.66528±0.00051 days, e = 0.401±0.018, ω = 241.36±2.18 and axsini = 80.81±0.67 lt-s.

A large spin – up rate measured with INTEGRAL in the High Mass X – ray Binary Pulsar SAX J 2103 . 5 + 4545

The High Mass X–ray Binary Pulsar SAX J2103.5+4545 has been observed with INTEGRAL several times during the last outburst in 2002–2004. We report a comprehensive study of all INTEGRAL observations, allowing a study of the pulse period evolution during the recent outburst. We measured a very rapid spin-up episode, lasting ∼130 days, which decreased the pulse period by ∼1.8 s. The spin-up rate, Ṗ...

Discovery of the transient X - ray pulsar SAX J 2103 . 5 + 4545

We report the discovery of the X-ray transient SAX J2103.5+4545 which was active from Febru-ary to September 1997. The observed peak intensity of 20 mCrab (2 to 25 keV) occurred on April 11. An analysis of data obtained around the time of the peak revealed a pulsed signal with a period of 358.61 ± 0.03 s on MJD 50569. The pulse profile has a pulsed fraction of ∼ 40%. No change in the pulse peri...

X-ray Spectra and Pulse Frequency Changes in SAX J2103.5+4545

The November 1999 outburst of the transient pulsar SAX J2103.5+4545 was monitored with the large area detectors of the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer until the pulsar faded after a year. The 358 s pulsar was spun up for 150 days, at which point the flux dropped quickly by a factor of ≈ 7, the frequency saturated and, as the flux continued to decline, a weak spin-down began. The pulses remained str...

INTEGRAL observations of the peculiar BeX System SAX J 2103 . 5 + 4545

We present an INTEGRAL data analysis of the X-ray transient SAX J2103.5+4545 during two outbursts detected in December 2002. The INTEGRAL coordinates and error circle agree with the position of the recently proposed optical counterpart. A power-law plus cutoff model provided a good fit to the 4–150 keV spectrum yielding a photon index of 1.0±0.1, a cutoff energy E cut = 7.6 ± 2.0 keV and a fold...

Identification of the optical counterparts of high-mass X-ray binaries through optical photometry and spectroscopy

We present the results of our search for optical counterparts to high-mass X-ray transient sources discovered by various X-ray missions. We obtained CCD images of the X-ray fields through BVR and Hα filters in order to identify early-type stars in the R − Hα versus B − V colour-colour diagram. We also obtained medium-resolution spectroscopy of the candidates in order to confirm the presence of ...
